CaveText is a Chrome extension that expands typed shortcuts into saved prompts on AI chat websites. You use it by signing in with your CAVELMS account. This page covers what the extension does in your browser.
Your account and what is stored on it, including your name, email, Snippets and User master prompt, are covered by the CAVELMS privacy notice. It says who is responsible for that data, where it is kept, for how long, and how to get a copy, correct it or delete it.
Your CAVELMS account
Signing in opens the CAVELMS sign-in page at cavelms.com. CAVELMS then gives CaveText a sign-in token, which CaveText uses to reach your account. CAVELMS is run by The Cave Consult and built and hosted by Wasabie Tech.
Your Snippets (each one's name, shortcut, text, folder and its "With User master prompt" switch) and your User master prompt are stored on your CAVELMS account, and travel between CaveText and CAVELMS over HTTPS. If you used CaveText before accounts existed, the Snippets saved in Chrome are copied to your account once, the first time you sign in.
What CaveText keeps in your browser
- The sign-in token and your name, so CaveText knows you are signed in.
- A copy of your Snippets, your User master prompt, the Image and Dashboard master prompts, your Snippet limit and the end date of CaveText Pro, so shortcuts work quickly and still work offline.
- The list of websites where CaveText is turned on.
These are stored by Chrome on your computer. Signing out removes the token and the copy. Older versions of CaveText kept Snippets in Chrome sync storage (or, when that was full, in this browser); those, and a note that they have been copied to your account, stay there until you remove the extension. Chrome sync goes through your Google account, under Google's privacy policy.
What CaveText reads
- Typing in chat boxes, only on websites where CaveText is turned on, and only to notice when you type one of your shortcuts. This is checked inside your browser as you type. It is never saved and never sent anywhere.
- Your clipboard, only when you insert a snippet that contains
{clipboard}, and only if you have allowed it. The text goes into that snippet and nowhere else.
What CaveText does not do
- It sends nothing anywhere except to your CAVELMS account: your Snippets and User master prompt, with the sign-in token on every call.
- No analytics, tracking or advertising.
- It does not sell your data, and does not use it for anything other than keeping and inserting your snippets.
Permissions
- Read and change data on ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, DeepSeek, Z.ai, Kimi and Qwen, and on any other site you turn on yourself: to spot shortcuts and insert snippets in the chat box.
- cavelms.com: to reach your CAVELMS account.
- Identity: to open the CAVELMS sign-in page and receive the sign-in token.
- Storage: to keep the token, the copy of your snippets and your list of sites.
- Scripting: to turn CaveText on for the sites in your list.
- Active tab: when you open the CaveText popup, to see which site you are on so it can offer to turn CaveText on or off there.
- Clipboard (optional): for snippets that use
{clipboard}.
Chrome Web Store user data
CaveText's use of information complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Data is used only to keep and insert your snippets. It is not sold, not used for advertising or to decide creditworthiness, not passed to anyone else except CAVELMS to store your account, and not read by people unless you ask for help, for security, or when the law requires it.
Deleting your data
Sign out to remove the token and the copy of your snippets from this browser, or remove the extension to delete everything it stored in Chrome. Delete Snippets in the CaveText dashboard. To delete your CAVELMS account and everything on it, follow the CAVELMS privacy notice.
Changes
If CaveText starts to collect or send anything new, this page will be updated before that version is released, and the date above will change.
